2015 Skylark Red Belly
It is hard to believe that this is our ninth edition of Red Belly, our ode to the South of France where blending varietals to achieve the perfect synergy is the way of life. 2015 Red Belly is a composition of two Carignane sites in Redwood Valley – our old friend Niemi vineyard and the addition of 100 year old vines from Casa Verde Vineyard, a ¼ mile to the south of Niemi. Lawer Vineyard in Knights Valley is the Syrah element, adding depth and power to the final blend. The final piece of the puzzle is Grenache from Charlie Sawyer’s vineyard above Ukiah, adding florals and that silky, spiced red cherry fruit. With the addition of Casa Verde, our production in 2015 reached 50 barrels of Red Belly. This is a classic vintage for Red Belly to be enjoyed anytime – fruit, spice, texture, tannins all in seamless cohesion.
40% Carignane 40% Syrah 20% Grenache
Violet. Aromatics of plum, black cherry, violet and Mediterranean hillside. The entry is defined by juicy and creamy black fruits – plum, blackberry and crushed cherry fruit coat the entire palate, with the tannin structure intricately woven into the fruit profile. Caramelized black fruits fan into the long and creamy finish, with the tannins lending a savory edge to the ripe fruit.
