2015 Skylark Syrah, Rodgers Creek Vineyard Sonoma Coast

Rodgers Creek is nestled in the hills above Petaluma in the Sonoma Coast appellation. Our block is a gently sloping hillside at 800 feet elevation planted to a Cote Rotie clone specifically selected for this site. We love stem inclusion here, as we feel it accentuates the uniqueness of this vineyard and the Syrah varietal character. The 2015 vintage was right in the middle of the extended California drought, when getting ripeness was not the issue but water retention and healthy vines were the main concern. Under the cool coastal fog, Rodgers Creek fared very well in this warm vintage. We picked on October 2, left the juice on the skins for 24 days and then pressed off free run juice into 33% new Francois Freres cooperage. The 2015 spent twenty-four months in barrel, then was bottled unfined and unfiltered. This has turned out to be an elegant, beautifully perfumed Rodgers Creek with a long and promising future.

Opaque. Beguiling aromas of black olive, tapenade, barrel spice,
blackberry and Provencal spice. The fruit comes alive across the
palatewith satiny texture, lovely balance, elegance and inner mouth
perfume. The raspberry and blackberry fruit, flecked with bakers
chocolate and Provencal spice, fan out into a lengthy, creamy finish.
