2019 Skylark Syrah, Rodgers Creek Vineyard Sonoma Coast

Rodgers Creek is nestled in the hills above Petaluma in the Sonoma Coast appellation. Our block is a gently sloping hillside at 800 feet elevation planted to a Cote Rotie clone specifically selected for this site. This coastal vineyard is air-conditioned by cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean, rolling over the hills on their way to the Central Valley. While Rodgers Creek normally produces wines with reticent fruit profiles, the 2019 has turned out to be a more exuberant reflection of this vineyard. Late summer heat accelerated grape maturity, expanding fruit viscosity and phenolics while still retaining its Sonoma Coast structure. It will be very rewarding to monitor the evolution of this vintage over the next decade(s), while best enjoyed now with an aerative decant. Two years in barrel and another two year elevage in bottle.

Opaque. High-toned aromatics of blackberry, raspberry, cocoa nib, freshly ground black pepper and spring violet. The luxurious palate features dense black fruits, textural and creamy, with the stem inclusion here adding a savory note to the ripe fruit profile. The fruit encompasses the entire palate, leaving a lasting impression of saturated black fruits, sweet and savory spices, leading into a lengthy finish with polished tannins adding that age-worthy structure.
