2023 Alondra Chardonnay
$22.00
Our Chardonnay is sourced from two sites in Mendocino, planted to four different clones: Wente, Robert Young, and the French Entav clones 76 and 96. This dichotomy of clonal selection lends to the complexity and style to Alondra Chardonnay. 2023 was a long and very cool growing season, starting with a very wet winter that effectively replenished and refreshed the vineyards. Spring and summer were cool without any noticeable heat spikes, truly creating a moderate vintage with long hang time. 2023 will be remembered as an exceptional vintage in Northern California, with balanced and age-worthy wines the result.
We continue to produce our Chardonnay without fermenting in oak, instead the goal is to emphasize the pure fruit coming off these beautiful vineyards. We employ a very cold, slow fermentation in a closed top tank. The goal of this reductive wine-making is to completely capture the alluring chardonnay esters and deliver this classic vineyard terroir without intervention.
Lemon straw hue. Aromas of Bosc pear, Granny Smith apple and tangerine with a cool climate lemon peel citrus aroma to finish. The palate is a deft interplay between the textures of chardonnay and the lively freshness from the cool 2023 growing season. Sleek and detailed on the entry, the 2023 Alondra exhibits pinpoint balance as it folds into a finish of fruit enlivened by natural acidity
